On 3 June 2026, Sarita Working Women’s Hostel was blessed and inaugurated in Andheri West, marking a significant step towards supporting women’s safety and economic independence in Mumbai.
An inauguration rooted in hope
Archbishop Rev. John Rodrigues led the blessing and inauguration in the presence of clergy, religious sisters, benefactors and distinguished guests. Sr Pushpa Louis, Province Leader, Central East India–Nepal, was also present for the occasion.
Designed primarily for women from lower-income groups, Sarita seeks to offer a secure and supportive place to live as residents pursue employment and build independent lives in the city.

A home with purpose
Located near Good Shepherd Church in Andheri West, the thoughtfully designed five-storey facility was developed by the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. It addresses the accommodation challenges faced by working women who move from rural areas to find employment in Mumbai.
The hostel offers a variety of accommodation options and amenities for comfort and security, including a library, prayer room, hygienic kitchen and spacious dining area. CCTV surveillance and dedicated security personnel support residents’ safety.

A celebration of community
Following the inauguration and blessing, guests assembled in the beautifully decorated Sarita Hall. Archbishop Rev. John Rodrigues, together with the concelebrating priests, celebrated the Holy Eucharist. His homily offered encouragement and appreciation for the Sisters and their contribution to the Church and society.

The celebration continued on the Sarita lawns with a ceremonial cake cutting, dance presentations and speeches. A video presentation explored the reasons behind the hostel’s construction and the scope of the Sisters’ work.
Dignitaries and stakeholders involved in the construction were felicitated with a shawl and a potted plant. Bianca Rosemeyer compered the programme, engaging guests through questions and answers that traced the Sisters’ work in Mumbai back to 1967.
With gratitude to everyone involved
Gratitude was expressed to all who worked with enthusiasm and dedication to make the event a success. The memorable occasion concluded with a meal shared by everyone present, bringing the day to a close in a spirit of fellowship, gratitude and community.
